A premise is any unique geographic location in which agricultural animals are raised, held or boarded. Farms, feedyards, auction barns and livestock exhibitions and fair sites are all examples of premises.
Why is premise registration important?
The USDA encourages all livestock, equine and poultry owners to register their premises regardless of operation size or number of animals at the facility. Premise registration is currently free.
The ability to locate animals is the key to efficient, accurate and cost-effective disease detection and control efforts.
Participation of animal concentration points such as auction barns, livestock markets and exhibitions is integral to the success of the NAIS.
